Very interesting photograph of the famous Montlhery circuit. This is something like the old Brooklands motor-racing circuit in Weybridge. Incidentally also used pre-war for cycle racing. The French circuit is basically a 2km speed track, very steeply banked. It was on this that Vanderstuyft set his one hour motor-paced record. Running out of the speed track at the end of the home straight and re-entering it at at the beginning of the back straight is a 10km road circuit with loads of corners, bends and hills! One of these is called the Cote Lapize named after the great French rider killed in the first world war. It was on this circuit that George Speicher won the 1933 world road championship. This was the same year as his Tour de France win. He was called the King of Montlhery and was one of the first riders to use a derailleur for racing.

Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
