John,

That would be a 1973 Colnago. The decals are the first year of the "wreath" decal on the seat tube. I know of some original '73 bikes to reference the exact decal set.

Colnagos come in a fairly wide range of colors at that time. The best is the "electric blue" in my opinion. The shifter braze-ons have to come off. I think shifter bosses come standard on Colnago somewhere around '74. Obviously no cable guides. I don't remember about the W.B. bosses off hand; but Joe Bell will know, since he has an original '73 that is a really "super" Super.

I wouldn't mind having another very early 70's Super myself. Truth be told, I wouldn't mind having one for each day of the week, like Brother Matty has! A track one would be nice, sort of.

1973 is the last year of the super cool Supers. '74 they go to just one cutout in the bottom head lug and the numbers increase quite a lot. The earlier ones have mucho MOJO, to me.

I bought an older Colnago at the Madison Swap Meet that had been poorly repainted, and braze-ons added. I plan on having braze-offs done along with a repaint, but the painter and I can't tell if the shifter bosses were added

or original. Some features about the bike: 5 speed rear, chrome only on the fork crown, only a clover on the fork crown- nothing else, clovers in the lugs, Campy long horizontal dropouts without eyelets, no "Colnago" stamped into the chainstays, cable guides brazed to the top of the BB shell...

So, would it be "correct" to remove the shifter braze-ons? Approx what year might this be, and what decal and paint scheme would be correct?

Thanks friends!
