Subject: [CR]vintagebicycles2000.com-- Harry Butler/ Hetchins

I'll try and tread carefully on this one. I was told of a website where their are many very neat early vintage Lightweights from the UK. URL is: vintagecycles2000.com.

I called the phone number attached to the site inquiring of a few bikes on the site including a gorgious Hetchins Magnum Opus Hellenic. The owner of the site is one Harry Butler of notorious fame for producing his own line of Hetchins Bicycles. The last time Harry and I conversed was several years ago when I was unfamiliar with the name. Harry was nice enough to fax me quite a long list of vintage cycles including several Hetchins of which there were two or three Hetchins in the Hellenic style. These being circa mid 1980s. Take in mind that there were only 65 odd Hellenic produced between 1966 through 1971 making them rare and desirable. Hetchins has been known to have produced one of two more Hellenics since "71" on custom orders, but Harry's list had I believe three.

I talked to Len Ingram of the VCC and holder of the Hetchins Register today and he said that there were only two Magnum Opus Hellenics produced, and he knows of the location of both. Years ago Harry had been known to have built for him a number of Hetchins frames, especially Magnum Opus, that were black and chrome. Gorgious machines, very nice riding, but not built by David Miller and Hetchins in the UK, the official builder of Hetchins. Please draw your own conclusions.
