The Weinmann Centerpull illustrations are on yahoo fotos, please try the link again. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/francopedia/detail?.dir=7c3f&.dnm=4a28.jpg&.sr

I took these directly from a '60s Wheel Goods Catalog. It mentions that the single-spring style preceded the double-spring style. But it doesn't mention or picture the silk-screened caliper.

Since I've only seen the silk-screened model in the single-spring version, the silk-screen styles must have been pre-'62. For whatever reason, Weinmann discontinued it sometime before they switched their design to double-spring. Anyone have a silk-screened caliper w/ double-springs that would shoot down this theory?

I also have questions to any W. Coast graphic designers. Back in the 50s. Which was used by Weinmann first, engraving or screening? Was there any design reason to use a silk-screened marking before an engraved marking, or could they have introduced them simultaneously? Lastly, when was silk-screening technology introduced?

Here's a rough Weinmann 999 Vaniquer (Winner) Centerpull Brake Timeline:

1. Pre-1962 Weinmann Logo Engraved or Silk-Screened with single-spring. 2. 1962-64 Weinmann Logo Engraved with double spring. 3. Post-64 Weinmann Logo on foil sticker. Caliper has inset for sticker and this brake and hardware varied slightly until production stopped in the 70s or 80s.

*Anyone know when the 999 centerpull was first introduced?

Interesting info, I had no idea of an engraved set having 2 springs. Is the Wheel goods catalog on line? I cannot pull the pictures up. Also where do the non stickered red lettered silk screened 999 weinmanns fit into this, I have found them on 1950-60's Allegros. Thanks Craig Griffith San Luis Obispo, Ca. USA

> According to an old Wheel Goods Catalog, the correct brakes for a '64 bike would be an engraved version with 2 springs. It is pictured in the 2nd photo here:

> Note that the '62-64 version used 2 springs, while the pre-'62 version used only 1 spring. After '64, Weinmann stopped engraving their name on the arms and used "Weinman 999" stickers.

> One note, Schwinn had a reputation for buying parts in large quantity. So, a Paramount might have older components than its model year.
