Hi folks --

With Dale's kind permission (folks, do the man a favor: ASK FIRST, POST LATER), I'm pleased to announce the Sixteenth Annual International Cycling History Conference (ICHC). This event will be held on September 8, 9, and 10, 2005, at the University of California, Davis campus. This is the first time the conference has been in the United States in almost a decade, and the first time it has been held in the West.

Hey, the City of Davis' logo is a pennyfarthing. The conference had to show up here sooner or later!

Of particular interest, the UC Davis plans on displaying much of the Pierce Miller Collection of more than 60 unrestored cycles, most of which predate 1900. This is an awfully rare event: Until a permanent display space is constructed, the Miller Collection generally stays out of sight in secure storage.

By the way, we're working right now to ensure there will be some public access to view the Miller Collection over the weekend of Sept. 10 and 11 for folks who can't make the full conference. We're also making plans with the University, City, and some private organizations to display all sorts of cycles and cycling memorabilia, both for conferees and public viewing.

Details for attendees are still being finalized, but as soon as they are available I'll post them to the Classics Rendezvous list.

In the meantime, if anyone is interested in a copy of the "Call for Papers," you can respond to me off-list. We'd like to see basic proposals by the beginning of April. For any additional information, please contact David Takemoto-Weerts, Bicycle Program Coordinator for UC Davis, at (530) 752-8875 or via email at:

Thanks for reading through this far!
