For the often-stubborn freewheel cogs that don't budge on the first try, I will rotate the cogs a few degrees relative to the tools and try again, and again, and again, until I've gone 360 degrees if necessary. I don't know how much the magic of precession plays here, but remember that even the most solid pieces flex a bit under stress, and by applying the forces from a range of angles, the cogs usually get "worked" loose without breaking my chains or bending the handles. This has worked many times for me, but I still come across the occasional "lost cause" that ceases to be worth additional effort. Sometimes it is then only some of the larger cogs that I'm trying to salvage, in which cases I cut a notch through the stuck cog using the bench gringer. The body is thus also rendered useless.
