Aldo, All: I think those are the old LAM brakes. The tape on the levers is to prevent slipping and to grip firmer. The tape on the Cables is to keep the ferrule and sharp edge from cutting and hurting the area at the base of your thumb and index finger when you lean against the housing and cable while riding hard. Gloves would help. Surprised he doesn't have a cap, either. Had them, done that, only not quite as fast. Ted Ernst Palos Verdes Estates, CA

Pic of the Day 18th March 2005 Émile Idée Wins the 1949 Critérium National

Idée on his way to winning the 1949 Critérium National. Bike is labeled Peugeot. Note the tape wrapped around the brake levers and first few cms of the brake cable housings, cables routed between the handlebar and cages, wing nuts, pump behind the seattube, and full set of braze-ons.
