Dear Jay:

Having an open period for purchases would be wonderful if it would work, but it raises the next problem of deciding who gets the item. Since we are required to put a fixed price on sale items with no auctioning, how do we break the ties? Unless you want to have folks write an essay on why they are the most deserving, and have the seller judge the literary work, I don't see a fair way out of the dilemma. I understand your feelings, as I regularly have something I could really use "snatched" out from under me (and I'm sure there are folks out there who would be thinking the same thing about me if they knew who got what), but it's hard to work out a system much better than "first come, first served". The most deserving may not always win, but its simplicity is its virtue.

Harvey Sachs does often leaves a time frame open for his stuff, but he is a stalwart character of iron virtue, well able to make these tough decisions. The rest of us are not so worthy. Harvey, what's your system?

I propose that folks selling to the list have a reasonal waiting period of a few hours, maybe 8 or 12, so as to give those of us who get the list in digest form a fair crack at the goodies.

For example, the Zeus shoes that Tom Hayes offered to list were gone in 15 minutes.

Not all of us are waiting by the computer.
