A lot of guys (TT'ers) in the club I rode with in the 70's did this: If you subbed-in in a Campy gear cable downwards, with the head inserted in the notch at the top, where the casing normally exited, and instead ran the casing up the lever from underneath and behind (actually inside the lever) so it fitted up into the slot where the head of the brake cable normally went, you'd have yourself a light 'early' aero lever. Of course, you left the hoods off, and only taped the bottom of the h/bar.... Any body else on the list do this?

Cheers,
