Subject: [CR]Re High-Priced Campy Dropouts

With reference to the Campy dropouts which recently sold for over $2,000, does anybody know what years these were made? This info might help in establishing the date of a '50ish Legnano frame I've seen. Does anybody know if the reason Campagnolo later downsized the adjuster screw was to make the dropout stronger? I know that they put some extra thickness around the screw, as shown in the photos of the dropouts just sold, but from what I have seen, the framebuilder's file would remove some of that metal and so some of the strength -- not that it would matter except in the event of a crash when it would be more likely to fracture.

Thanks
