Yes, Norris, I'm in total agreement. Made by some outside supplier to Gitane's design just as Tullio Campagnolo's drop-outs were forged by some outside supplier to Tullio's design.

I've got to admire Gitane for doing something so completely different than copying Campagnolo's designs like the rest of the bike industry seemed to be doing! Looks to me like they went to a bee's honeycomb for inspiration on the hexagonal motif.
