Subject: Re: [CR]Sedis Chain Dating

Tonight I dug out the chain that came from my 1974 raleigh international. I am pretty certain that this bike hasn't been messed with, since it has the cruddy TA seat bolt and even the original yucky plastic bar tape was original, however the rear rim has been replaced by a fiamme red label. My bike's graphics are/were all original and highly un-marked, as if the bike hard hardly been ridden.

The chain is a "Sedis" and on the side of each plate it says "Sedis" normally atop a little triangle - like a pyramid which is behind the word "Sedis". The chain DOES NOT have a geometric "S" laying sideways on each link, as another of my chains has. Moreover, the links on my chain had "sawed off" pins that are totally flat - my pins do not have dimples to make it easier to center a chain tool on a pin.

I believe that like all the other campagnolo parts on this bike, the chain is a 1973 sedis chain. Suntour Winner freewheels were introduced in 1975, according to Andrew Muzi, and I believe that Sedis introduced Sedisport chains to work with Winner Ultra freewheels. So I believe that this chain on my Raleigh International - 1974 - is a "pre-sedisport" chain.
