Subject: [CR]A few TA technical questions

Has anyone ever tried using a stem bolt mounted cable guide with a recessed allen bolt? Should I change out the stem bolt to a standard one?

Also, I picked up a TA cyclo touriste crankset very cheap, 10.00. The reason they were so cheap is because they were obviously involved in a crash. The non drive side is fine. The drive side was gauged up right around the dust cap area. I went over both cranks very well and did not see any cracks so I bought them, I figure the chainrings are worth at least that price. I filed down the driveside crank a bit to get ride of some of the gouges, then I polished them. You can still see the file marks a bit but it looks alot better than it did before. Was there anything wrong with what i did? would anyone advise against riding these?

thanks in advance
