1949 - Ohio State University student Eugene McPherson (right) crosses
the finish line in NYC to set a new cross-country record of 3054 miles
in 20 days,7 hours, 29 minutes. His racing rig looks very European for
the time... compare it to the fixed gears behind him. Note the
pointy-collar jersey with pockets on the sleeves!
