The Gios was nicely worked over by a local machine shop. The result!!!!!:

The seatpost mostly came out, leaving only one small section still firmly sucked onto the inside of my frame tube... and...

One small section of the frame tube missing in the exchange.

I know it's not the end of the world, but it still hurts. It was like the end story of this one small victory for mankind's love for perfection and simplicity. This Gios is important to me, and over the last two months, I have been imagining what went in to it, and how it will ride and all that. Then Bianca has come to the rescue. She called up a local frame builder, the Dutch Dirk Smeets. He says that he will replace the seat tube with a Columbus Genius or similar. So in a cruel world, filled with super light, soulless aluminum jewels-jigglers, there is still a chance to resurrect one old steel Gios.
