I'd just like to add to this discussion of BB height. From the perspective of a racer, I never heard (at least in the 70's) anyone speaking of drop. It was always BB height. This dimension was always spoken about in the context of cornering. And, not necessarily just on the track. We were, in those days, mostly riding crits and the issue was, of course, cornering. As you all know, 170 mm cranks were the norm then, and the issue was could you pedal through the turn. Of course, we should have been keeping our inside crank up, but many a rider flipped into the air when an inside pedal hit the pavement. So, we were always asking how high is the BB. As I see from this discussion, probably this was the wrong question but, nevertheless, it was the one we asked.
