Thanks for this David... very interesting.

But question: who actually bought and rode all of these lovely Swallow and other cutaway saddles? I ask because when I see photos of our "era" I never see machines with these saddles, either in club, touring or racing situations. Even in videos of the Tour of Britain c. 1953 the cycles, either on the team bikes or the myriad roadside spectators. The saddles seem to be B-17s etc.

Now I know Raleigh, for one, spec'd Brooks Swallows c. 1957-61 for the last of the Lentons and the RRA Moderne. But they sure don't seem to figure prominently in cycledom of the era. Or am I looking in the wrong places?
