I had just the opposite experience. I had updated the few old bikes I still had with clipless pedals, but when I put them on my wife's bike she refused to ride them, saying "Hell, it took me long enough to get used to toe clips and straps." So I dug out the original pedals and reinstalled them, and while I was at it did the same to one of my bikes. Before I knew it, I had restored all of the original equpiment to my bikes and was soon off acquiring more classic bikes.

My wife loved them so we bought a pair. I hated the initial set-up (had to modify the shoe and the cleat - early days!) and did not like the way they looked (pardon the pun). My wife was happy however, and we rode more often (together), so I guess it was a good thing.
