Yes, I know, they all have a "patent" date on them.

But what about the ones that just say "patent" with no year?

The earliest one of which I can find a pic says "patent 71"

But aluminum Nuovo Record rears were introduced in '67, according to multiple campy timelines on-line.

So how do you date an NR derailleur that just says "patent" with no date?

Hi Duncan:

1970 was the first year that the Nuovo Record rear derailleur had a year stamp. 1984 was the last year to have a standard date. There were "Pat. 11" NR rears made in 1985. There were also some late (post-1985) no-date NR rears sold in Europe that show up from time to time on eBay. (These had no "Patent" or "Pat." marking on the upper body at all).

The "Patent" ders. are from about 1968-1969.

The very earliest 1967 NR rear ders., with the nine-tooth pullies and some other unique features, were just stamped "Patent Campagnolo" on the upper body.

There are some good pics. at:

This is a page on Dr. Akihiko Amaki's website, I believe. You may recognize him better as "kauzo" on eBay.
