I've had very good results _painting_ chainrings black with Krylon rattlecan spray paint.

Especially the inner ring is suitable for this, because it isn't readily exposed to anything that would scratch it.

Of course the chain wears the black off of the teeth, but that happens with anodizing too, and if you're not a fanatic about cleaning it, the chain lube will keep the teeth reasonably black...
