Re: Resurrecting chrome.

DDD asked "I'm looking for advice on how to salvage it's appearance, without removing any more of the remaining too-thin chrome."

There is no magic cure to if the chrome is too thin or worn off. However, the best way to resurrect the remaining chrome is to use fine steel wool (0000 grade). This will not damage the chrome. Then apply some car wax and buff off. The wax will fill any pits and it also helps protect from further rusting.

The ultimate cure is to rechrome. Don't be tempted with a cheap "flash" coat though. Make sure any steel parts receive full copper and nickel base coats first.
