Officially, Reynolds will supply "respray" decals if you can prove that your frame was actually built from 531. You'd probably need make/model/serial # to establish that.

As far as the fragility of the decals, that is "working as designed." The old-style decals were multilayer (one color on each layer) and quit ethin and brittle. This was to prevent lifting a decal from an "official" frame and placing it on e.g. a Raleigh DL-1 roadster.

The newer style decals are considerably more sturdy, though.
