George,

Around 1981 Mavic changed their corporate logo to an italized all capital Helvetica typeface. The Blue SSC and the Grey SSC rims originally had the big white stick on individual letter "MAVIC" in a Microgramma typeface. Judging by their catalogs this was changed to the big white stick on individual letter "MAVIC" in the corporate italized Helvetica typeface in 1984 (or maybe even sometime between 1981-1984). This could be checked in the race photos in the magazines of that period for anyone who wants to spend their free time that way... me? I'm off for a long ride (smile)
