I don't know him well enough to ask him myself, and besides, it's only of passing interest to me, but somebody who cares should ask George Mount, who was sixth in the Montreal Olympic road race in non-boycotted 1976, then raced pro in Europe, including the Giro, and came home to California with a Gianni Motta.
