I have built a city bike with a Rohloff hub set up per factory recommendations and it works very well. Also built up a tandem set up with a Rohloff hub and a double up front. As set up, it provides the equivelent of a 53x11 top and 22x34 bottom, more than enough for any circumstance. Rohloff does not recommend a triple up front, but I don't see where it would be a major technical problem. Using anything other than a single cog with the Rohloff hub would require a lot of engineering and machining of special parts, as well as an odd rear dropout spacing. Try it only if you want to spend a lot of time, effort, and expense to accomplish the unusual. billRider Charter Oak Cycling Best Newcomer at the 2005 North American Handmade Bicycle Show San Dimas, CA
