I recently found the need to use an older Huret band clamp to adapt some OT indexed Shimano levers to one of my Japanese tourers. The original bolts were too short, and the Shimano lever's bolts were fine threaded. I found that I could use common 10-24 screws to secure the levers, but the fit was pretty loose and I backed it up with Loctite on the threads. I was able to get good torque on the screws and the shifters have now endured a couple of months of frequent service without loosening. These shifters don't have tension adjustment, it's pre-set with an internal wave washer to preserve factory adjustment. Years back, I twice tried using old Shimano band clamps with a pair of adjustable cable housing stops. The Shimano's bolts on those were 4.5mm dia, but fortunately of usable length, so I retained them with Loctite and then removed the wire handles. Nicely chromed bolts, those. On the other of those clamps, I just drilled and tapped the holes to 5mm and used the tiny bolts that were supplied with the stops.
