Subject: [CR]Campagnolo toe guides?

I just ran into something I have never seen before. The Nuovo Record pedals I was detailing out had small bits bolted in through the center hole in the Cristophe toe clips that were inside the pedal cage, ahead of the spindle and were tapered downward so that they came almost to a rounded point as they descend downward. They are marked Campagnolo Patent. It seems I have heard of a toe guide before, but entering that in the archives did not seem to bring up a hit. Is that what these little bits are? They must be scarce, as I have owned quite a few pedals from this period and have never encountered them before. Can someone enlighten me a bit about these cute little thingies?
