Subject: [CR]FS: Bill Lewis Track Frame (built up as a Single Speed) - 23"

Greetings <again> Folks,

I'm offering a Bill Lewis track frame which is built up as a single speed.

Bill Lewis opened up his retail store in 1975 (he just celebrated his 30th anniversary) and started building frames in 1976. He was a machinist with GE, so he had a pretty good background with fabrication, etc. He ceased framebuilding in 1995 (he is a one man shop and the MTB bike boom didn't leave him enough time for his primary business - plus, his painter was transferred from the General Electric in Schenectady to a facility in Ohio) and built 237 frames including several tandems, but only one track frame, which was for himself. He hurt his knee in an accident in the early 90's and could not ride a fixed gear any longer and sold his bike. He built this frame in 1983.

The second owner changed many things including turning the bike into a single speed. He had the rear brake bridge drilled for a brake (it was originally drilled by Bill for a front brake) and changed wheels (to clinchers) as well as many other parts. The second owner hurt his back in an accident and can now ride only recumbents.

I'm the third owner, and bought the frame and the original wheelset. It's been one of those "on the back burner projects" for a few years, but I have finally finished it. Unfortunately, some serious issues (a few Listmembers know what I mean) forces me to sell it. Here are the particulars:

It is "mostly" a Columbus Pista tubed frame with a Columbus SP downtube. The fork blades are Columbus Pista "Sprint" and Bill used Reynolds 531 fork tubes for the chainstays. It measures 23" (to top - Bill never built a "metric" frame) with a 22 1/2" top tube. It is full Campagnolo with a Nuovo Record headset; SR Crankset (170mm) w/NR 43t ring; NR BB (English); NR brakeset w/50th levers; SR seatpost (27.2mm); NR SL pedals; Record Pista hubs (large flange/32o). The remaining components are: Brooks Team Pro saddle; Cinelli 1R stem; Cinelli Campione del Mondo (Old Logo) Bars (38cm c-c); Wolber/Super Champion Aspin Rims; DT spokes (14ga/3x); Continental Triathelon tubulars; A Silca frame pump (Campagnolo head) painted to match the lovely frame; Regina chain; An ACES 20t freewheel.

I think this bike is gorgeous!! $1150 + shipping. Pictures are available.

Best,
