"Though not a "pop-star", our former tumbling president, Gerald Ford owned

custom-made Bob Jackson back in 70's if I recall correctly. Wonder if he

ever took a spill or two on it??? ;-)"

Hmmm, well since Jerry Ford is a not too distant relation, I'd gratified t o learn of this! Actually, having lived in Washington, DC for 46 years and been an active cyclist here for about 40, I must say I haven't seem lots o f famous or infamous folks on bikes of any sort. Sen. Kerry lives right down the road from me and I've never once seen him on his $9000 what's it. Th e closest to a famous person I've seen cycling frequently was Redskins coach

George Gibbs on a well kept Schwinn Continental or something similar. He

was a very good cyclist. And last year my 1948 RRA got an approving nod

from Don Rumsfeld outside my apartment house. So that's the extent of my

cycle celebrity encounters. Oh... I did almost clip Henry Kissinge r on my DL-1 when he was jaywalking.. does that count?

An early celebrity lightweight rider and apparently a very keen cyclist wa s actor Jose Ferrer (Caine Mutiny, Lawrence of Arabia etc) who rode an Elswick-Hooper bought in LA in the mid 1950s.
