A Polish riding instuctor in Richmond Park forty odd years ago when a slow learner complained he would never be able to ride replied, "If the horse is between you and the ground, you are riding!" Applies to bicycles too. What a pity cycling has never inspired a writer as hunting inspired Robert Smith Surtees. H.G.Wells got close. Any others? Stuart Tallack on the West Sussex coast from which all hills have been removed to aid elderly cyclists.
