early 70s Raleigh Competition in the Proper Black with gold decoration, converted to fixed gear with Stronglight 93 cranks. My other commuter, great for the 13 mile run into town. didn't ride home; had an evening event in town. 26 mi. tomorrow.

harvey sachs mcLean va (parking on the street in downtown DC limits my commuting options. Park across the street is a lounge for savvy bike couriers with uncertain views on property rights theory and practice. We refer to the "half-life" of a good bike or a flashy car, the period that yields a 50:50 chance of theft. I try to always ride a bike on my commute that screams out: "steal the next one, it's worth more." no wonder I'm into funk...
