A small point but Imperial threads became obsolete for reasons of harmonisation and standardisation. They were not archaic except in the sense that they had been around a long time. Like some old bicycles, they are arguably better in some respects. Change is not the same as progress. Stuart Tallack who uses BSF, Whit and BA all the time in tradition-bound Sussex.
