Correction: the stolen Singer frame had already been repainted in a light blue pearl/metallic and has no decals. I'm afraid this reduces the probability that it will show up again to zero. But nevertheless if you see a light blue french high end frame without decals and the serial number 1732 at the left drop out on eBay or elsewhere please inform me!

Dirk

BTW: The Csukas are very helpful and kind and offered to build a new frame.

-----Original Message-----

Today I was informed by O. Csuka that burglars stole several bikes including my 1974 Alex Singer from the shop where the Singer bikes are painted. As far as I know only the frame has been stolen. Although unlikely, I hope that the thiefs knew what they stole and that the frames (two new ones and my old one) will reappear eventually in the small world of vintage cycle enthusiasts.

Its a bright orange Cyclosportif/Randonneuse No. 1732 (stamped at right drop out). It has - size 54cm, Reynolds 531 decal - new style Singer decals, several paint chips - typical Singer braze ons for chain stay protector, front rack, fenders, brake cables... - braze ons for direct mounting Mafac centerpulls - Simplex/Singer drop outs - golden Lug lining, no chrome, no pinstripes - special Singer bottom bracket (sob!), - special front der. braze ons for clamp less mounting of a Huret Success - special braze on for battery light at left seat stay - no braze on or threads/holes for dynamo or wiring - normal seat clamp with Simplex screw

The bike belonged to a cycling club buddy of Ernest Csuka and I believed to see the special charm these "froends of the house" bikes have. Since I brought the bike directly from the original seller to the Singer shop I don't have photos, just the original eBay photo: http://i20.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/09/12/47_1_b.JPG Please look out and inform me if the frame or a matching ad or auction appears somewhere!

Thanks, Dirk
