With my Cinelli SC (1969) It have Mafac Top 63s with Weinmann levers. At the time I bought the bike that was the "in thing" to have in the way of brakes. Work great, but do they "squeeeek"

\r?\n> The only reason to use the Universal levers is if you are a stickler for

\r?\n> original equipment. If you are more concerned about using the brakes, the

\r?\n> Weinmann levers are much better. And, if you can find a set of the later more

\r?\n> ergonomic hoods, they are much more comfortable, too.

\r?\n> Hmmm, very intersting. I bought a 60's Olmo that was set up with Universal 61's

\r?\n> and Weinmann levers. Joe's comment about the differences in lever advantage may

\r?\n> shed some light on why this bike had the Weinmann levers. I was planning on

\r?\n> installing the "correct" Uni levers but maybe I should reconsider.

\r?\n> Well I've been riding my raleigh competition and

\r?\n> international alot lately. The competition was set up

\r?\n> with Universal 61 centerpulls and the international

\r?\n> with the apropriate weinmanns, 610's. Both were given

\r?\n> some modern brake blocks, I forget the brand, but to

\r?\n> me the difference in performance is very noticeable. I

\r?\n> never really cared for centerpulls, switching them out

\r?\n> for sidepulls whenever I could, but I had always

\r?\n> simply dealt with either weinmann or dia-compe

\r?\n> calipers.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> By far I think the universal brakes provide much more

\r?\n> stopping power and modulation. Any opinions would be

\r?\n> greatly appreciated. I was going to put some weinmanns

\r?\n> on the competition just to make it correct but now I'm

\r?\n> not so sure.

\r?\n> Well I actually wound up using some later universal

\r?\n> levers meant for sidepulls without the built adjusting
