I'd suggest a test by putting some glue on the gum wall of another tire (could be a beat up old clincher for that matter), let it dry overnight then rub a little talc on it to kill any residual tackiness. I'd make sure that it is talc not a cornstarch-based powder that might encourage molds, etc. If that works and doesn't leave an unacceptable hue, do the same on your tubular set.

Can't wait to hear the other suggestions that come to the list (or just to you off-list). Let us know how you fare. You can always say that it was an experiment to try to defeat the hated BTSS (base tape separation syndrome)...

p.s. When I glue tires up, I always try to run the glue to the edge of the base tape and see that it drives in a bit just to minimize BTSS by stabilizing the cotton. Don't really know how well it works because I have no recent controls that haven't been prepared that way.

Started gluing my new tubulars. Applied nice even coat to rims, no problem. Malfunction came when brain told finger that all the tan part must get glue instead of just the center strip where the base tape is. What to do? I don't want to clean glue off with solvent having ruined a set of tires cleaning rims with solvents. Can I coat over top of glue coated sidewalls with liquid latex? Will it stick to glue? Road dirt and everything will stick to sidewalls as they are now right? Thanks.
