Folks, if Schwalbe have indeed stopped making these, 'tis a tragedy indeed

as they are primo riding tyres for the classic 26 x 1 1/4" club bike rims.

Now I appreciate there are about 6 people on the CR List into these machines, but those of you will want to beat a beeline to Sheldon Brown an d grab 'em. I got mine well before Harris started stocking them from St. John St. Cycles in the UK. Now, another source for these tyres is good 'ol Raleigh itself via their UK website. They have a Raleigh branded Asian-m ade tyre in 26 x 1 1/4" that's very good for £9.95; I picked up a pair at a shop in Exeter. These are both blackwall with mixed tread. The Schwinn

tyres in this size which are readily available in the USA are 'orrible being way too "fat" in profile. You put a pair of these on a Clubman and

you've just turned it into a cement mixer in terms of ride.

Now I know 27 x 1 1/4" superceded the 26" size by the mid 1950s, but I still prefer the ride and handling of a club bike with the 26", especially

the sweet Dunlop LA (light alloy) rims.
