The next time you are in Shirley Road could you please ask about the Baylis Brothers? Whatever happened too them. Jonathan Baylis was a boyhood hero of mine when he was runner up in the B.B.A.R in 1960. A real giant of British time trialing 6' 4" and 14.5 stone. He averaged 24.171 m.p.h. that year on his 25.5" Rotrax. He was one of the first riders to drill out his bell our metalwork teacher could never work out why we got so interested in his subject. Can remember seeing him and his brother David doing tandem pursuits on a Hobbs blue Ribband. They knocked out two and three quarters miles in 5 minutes in a tandem pursuit. That's 33m.p.h! We all wanted Rotrax's because of him as kids. We would ride down to a dealer near to the Uxbridge Road who was a London agent for these frames and gawp at his window. Happy days. Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
