Subject: [CR]Dirt! Rims!

On my recent travels in France I found, among other bikes, a CNC randonneur with MAFAC cantilevers, a Cyclo derailleur (8 speed) and some other nice features.

While reading my copy of The Custom Bicycle (Kolin / de la Rosa), I noticed that CNC ranks equal with Guerciotti, Cinelli and Taylor. Funny

thing that my CNC should have gas pipes, steel cranks and rims as well

as Nervex série légère lugs, but then, CNC´s in the book and I got a world class randonneur for five Euros! Fame at last.

This means I´ve got to get the dirt off. The bike has spent at least 10 years outside and is covered with a hard layer of what looks like dried

algae the like of which I´ve not seen in nearly a quarter of a century

of collecting cycles. The paintwork underneath is dark red with white lining (visible under some tape that´s come off, and on a few square

millimeters that took me five minutes to clean), and is worth saving.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get the dirt off without spending the rest of my holidays doing it?

And does anyone have a used pair of cheapish 650B rims for sale? Those

on the CNC are just rotted through.

Thanks,

Toni Theilmeier, Belm, Germany.
