Sew-ups on tandems are fine for tandems on anything but mountain switchbacks. We used Clement Del Mundo tires for a cross-state race years ago. Not much braking on the wide-open mountain passes around here. The tire wear on the rear was astonishing, though! Basically, a brand-new Del Mundo was showing a lot of wear after only 275 miles.
