An intimate Portrait of the Tour de France....by Philip Brunnel...I think that's the author. Nice book. Great pics and Great tales of the Tour. There are sections in there also that speak of riders using cocaine just to stay awake and alert during the stages in the early days.

Tires...even nowadays with a tubular flat, whip off the old one, put on a prestretched one and the glue from the previous is adequate to hold without problems...most of the time. There are different views on this as well. I have had to swap off tubulars on a ride due to flats and I can tell you I don't slow down any after the other is back on and I am riding again. Often, I will go home and check to see how well the "stick" is and sometimes I haven't reglued...in fact many times I haven't reglued or had to. What type of glue they used then? not sure if it was similar to now or not.
