Jerry,

My 1980 CFX-10 frame is built with a standard 118 mm Stronglight double bb spindle for its 106 crank. I had used a 120 mm spindle initially, but the chain line wasn't quite right. Shifting is much better with the slightly shorter spindle.

Despite the obvious resemblance between the Stronglight 106 and the Campagnolo SR cranks, the Campy is a little thicker in the mid-section, and can probably get by with a shorter spindle and still avoid clearance problems on the chainstays. You may remember an evaluation of cranks in Bicycling magazine, 1984. The 106 was the second lightest crankset in the test (beat only by an Edco Competion Aero), but it was also one of the more flexible cranks--that lightweight Edco had the most deflection with horizontal crank position. The Campy Nuovo Record (SR wasn't tested) was in the middle of the pack.

I have never tried a 106 with a Campagnolo bb--might be interesting to check it out. I can't tell you about the best Phil bb for either one, but would have to suspect that given the 4mm difference in length for the two, that the asymmetric116 would be more suitable for the Stronglight (as long as your stays are thin--otherwise go for the 119)and the 113 would be more suited for the NR/SR.

Let me know how they work. By the way, I would really like some photos of your Haral when you finish it. You bought this one right before I hit the buy it now button. I was so disappointed, and had even pulled out a NOS 27.4 seatpost for it!

Best,
