AlI this reminiscing about french bikes and components reminded me of a question I've had for a long time. Since France, Italy and GB were the trifecta of Cycledom, I've wondered why there were (no?) derailleur systems developed in GB? Is it because GB being relatively flat didn't need more than a 4-speed Sturmey-Archer? Or since the french and italian systems were developed first they didn't bother to or see commercial viability in developing competing systems?
