An elderly friend showed me his 1952 Charles Pelissier Randonneur bicycle. I cleaned it a bit, put some of his original parts back on, shot photos, and scanned his original catalog/price list. He even had his receipt of sale.

The one odd thing is the outer left nut for the rear hub. What is its purpose? I'm really curious.
It's alloy and lightweight, likely hollow. Doesn't seem to be a wing nut for releasing the wheel since it doesn't afford much leverage, and the front wheel does have wing nuts. This alloy nut had a ball in its end at one time, according to the owner. There wasn't one of these units on the right side, either. The owner didn't know its purpose or if there was originally one on the right side.
If anyone needs restoration details, this bike is pretty much as he purchased it in Paris in 1952. It was the most expensive Charles Pelissier bicycle; check the catalog. I can look at it more closely upon request, take pictures including macro. It's in my hands right now on loan, and not gathering dust in his garage. I have larger pixel images of these photos if anyone needs them, plus higher quality TIF scans of his slides of the downtube decal/transfer.
