To stimulate the thought process I thought I'd add these songlyrics, brought out in 76 (in Belgium) to celebrate the victory of Van Impe (and make some money probably):

Hela hola hupsasa, Van Impe is de kleine grote kampioen. Hela hola hopsasa, daar konden Zoetemelk of Poulidor niets aan doen. Voor aan de kop te rijden was Joop Zoetemelk te lui, en door dat wieltjes zuigen heeft Lucien de gele trui. Hela hola, gene zwans, Lucien die won de Tour de France. _____

Vooruit Van Impe, vooruit van Impe! Dat is nog gene zwans (?). Vooruit Van Impe, vooruit van Impe! Hij won de Tour de France. The sneers at Zoetemelk are nice. This is a joke aimed at Zoetemelk: Zeg va, wil Zoetemelk volgend jaar nog meerijden in de Tour de France? Ja ventje, maar hij heeft gevraagd aan Van Impe om met hem op de tandem te zitten. OK I'll translate this one: Say Pa, Zoetemelk wants to ride the Tour next year? Yes boy, he asked Van Impe can he sit on the tandem with him. Freek Faro Rotterdam Netherlands

OK, I have a similar quizz for the list. Lucien Van Impe, who holds the record for most TdF KoM jointly with Bahamontes, also (like Bahamontes) won the overall once. Van Impe is probably most assocaited with LeJeune, but actually won the overall with a different team team. What year did he win overall? With what team? What bike and tubing?

The last two teams had as directeur-sportif Jan Raas, were essentially the same team and rode Colnago. Zoetemelk became world champion in 85, age 38, on a Colnago. The most beautiful color combo was, IMO, Coop-Mercier on Mercier. Lilac?

In 1980, TI-Raleigh rode Raleigh (of course), and the tubing was 753, unless the decals were fake. Built by Jam Legrand no doubt.

According to the Torelli website, Zoetemelk switched to TI-Raleigh in the offseason and won the TdF at TI-Raleigh, no doubt riding a 753 Team Pro. In 1979, it says he had rideen for the Miko team. Another site had a photo of him on a Colnago, but I couldn't tell if the team was Miko or some previous team.

If memory serves me well, was'nt he riding a Colnago??

I forgot the name of his team, though.

Jerome & Elizabeth Moos wrote: Is this a trick question? In fact, it was in 1980 at age 33 that Zoetemelk won his only TdF, riding for the TI-Raleigh team directed by the legendary Peter Post. One presumes he rode a Raleigh Team Pro made of Reynolds 753.

It's all there on the web site of our good buddy "Chairman" Bill McGann:

OK - here's a stumper! Many of us know Joop Zoetemelk was a 33 yr old Dutch, one time Tour De France winner in 1980 (he finished with a total time of 109hr 19min 14sec) He rode for TI-Raleigh.

BUT!! does anyone know the brand and model tubing Joop used in his lone Tour de France victory? Not only is it a fun obscure question, I also get free shipping from ebayer Terry Porter with the correct answer ...

OK - I promise to tell him I got help even though my ethicists tell me its alright to ask the list - (think of it as my lifeline phone call!)

Anyone have a clue? :-)
