Subject: [CR]What KOF means in the context of the CR

<< I have a newbie question: what is "KOF?" >>

Hi Kendra:

Ha! They are discussing that on the list right now, so I am answeringt all.

"Keeper of the flame" means (to me) a builder who is devoted to and honors traditional construction and aesthetic themes.

That eliminates (In my opinion) new materials such as Ti, carbon & aluminum. Even when those materials were used in odd ball old bikes, they were non traditional. The flame cannot be kept up if it was not aflamein the first place!

"Traditional" is important, not as a way to conform, but as a path to a progressively more refined product through slow and thoughtful evolution and considered form.

I can easily recognize a KOF based upon that approach......So that's what will be used in the CR. No committee necessary, thanks!

(Whew!)

I don't think we are going very far with this proposal of democarcy. I believe Dale a few years ago, when the list had threatened to get out of control, stated that his future policy would be the "Attila the Hun" school of management. Or maybe that was Ghengis Khan, but you get the idea. Considering the chaos on some discussion lists that have tried democracy, I think a little benovelant dictatorship isn't a bad thing.

Don't you realize that there is a right answer and a wrong answer to every question, black and white, no grays, and the goats must be separated from the sheep, so as not to taint them?

I bet you don't support the troops, either, do you?

I know some, if not many of you will become infuriated with what I'm about to suggest, but I'll suggest it anyway as by recent posts we CLEARLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT A KOF bicycle (myself included) is.

I read the CR list rules and I realize this is a Republican run list.

However, I think we ought to take a "Democratic" approach to laying this KOF thing to rest.

I suggest: Every CR list member SUBMITS A LIST OF WHAT HE OR SHE BELIEVES QUALIFIES FOR AND/OR IS A KOF BICYCLE; (makes, models, brands, tubing, builder, componentry, etc.) Then we cross off all of the "doubles" (for a KOF suggested more than one time) and make a list. The list could then be put on the CR website. This way everyone gets to "chime in" and from there we have "fully-encompassing criteria" from which to refer to and discuss.
