Hugh, You can always find exceptions to the rule in life but generally fillet brazed frames were considerably cheaper when they were at their Zenith. Many thanks to Sam Lingo for pointing out that this rule applied to Claud Butlers Closed Circuit export frames to the USA. I have lots of catalogues from various makers during this zenith period of lugless frames and cannot find a like for like welded frame being more expensive. The period I am refering to is immediately post war until about 1957 when the fashion for fillet brazing ended. After this only Jack Taylors were about the only UK maker producing lugless frames in any volume.
