Shame as it is really small potatoes by comparison but it speaks volumes about a person and can turn an otherwise favorable opinion into one like this. Rats! (An exclamation and a description of those who foul the CR nest!)

Sorry that you had those bad experiences Ray. I was glad to meet you at this year's Cirque and know you to be a great guy so I hate that negatives reared their ugly faces....

BUT, I still think that despite a few stinkers (!), CR folk are, in the great majority, a noble bunch! I know I truly value the friends I have met through all this.. I can ignore the few rotten apples!

Dale Brown Greensboro, NC USA Two thoughts: One of the (many) best things about this group is that, if you trade regularly in vintage bike parts, folks will often tell you candidly of their "one percenter" experiences, and make recommendations on just whom should be avoided, or whom should be approached only with extreme caution. This often involves the same individual over and over (think collalbo/pecelen on eBay, for example), so it becomes obvious rather quickly where the rare repeat offenders are that you should avoid. If one person has a problem with everyone else, then everyone else isn't the problem.... ;-) Secondly, as group, serious vintage bicycle enthusiasts are amazingly honest, in my experience. Far more so than the "typical" person you might encounter on the 'net, not to mention the extremely small percentage of scam artists there (here). I have never received a bad check from anyone in this hobby/business, nor have I failed to receive items that were purchased and paid for. Had serious differences of opinion over condition issues, been upset that someone sold me a used item as NOS, sure, but that's not (necessarily) dishonesty, it might just be a lack of knowledge or due diligence. Almost all conflicts on the Web seem to be communication problems, at least initially. There is no face-to-face data involved, so you can't "read" the other person, or hear an inflection in a voice, you can only read his/her words, which can often be taken multiple ways. Sometimes, it can take an inordinate amount of "communicating" to get some folks to do what's right. That's just part of the rich tapestry of Life, I guess..... :-) One percent of folks cause 99 percent of the problems, IMO. Plus, remember that some folks will do things on the Internet that they would never dream of doing face-to-face.
