Doland,

Ofmega, Gipiemme, and Galli all sold complete groups, and other manufacturers such as Omas and Miche made some components. Galli products were very high quality, although the derailleurs were Simplex, and most of the cranks were Stronglight. Ofmega made some very high quality (Mistral, CX) that were equivalent to Campagnolo in design and finish, but they also made some lesser stuff (such as Mundial, Master). Ofmega sourced its brakes from Universal, the last of which were superior in design to the contemporary NR/SR brakes. Gipiemme had some very high end components and some mid-range stuff, and also usually sourced its derailleurs from Simplex. The finish on the upper end components were at least equal to the best from Campy.

I have a late 70's Paletti built up with Gipiemme, and a mid 80's Bianchi built up with Ofmega, and I am usually the only guy in the ride with something other than "Shimagnolo," even on the vintage rides. By the way, they work great, and I have no intention of converting to Campagnolo on either bike.
