Marc,I commuted to work during the 70's and 80's, and used one of those Subitez bottle generator lighting systems. It was an urban commute with fair street lighting. I must say the light output was meagre....For period correctness, use them, but I would suggeat supplimenting them with a halogen on the handlebars or a caver style headlamp on your helmet. Also a blinkie on your saddle and a reflective belt. Harvey is right, you are putting your life on the line and technology has improved significantly in the lighting arena.
