I recently picked up some anatomical Modolo hoods at http://www.bicycleclassics.com/index.html http://www.bicycleclassics.com/index.html . Maybe a bit spendy ($29 bucks/pair), but they're comfortable, the service was Speedy (like the brakes), and the hoods will last a while -- even longer if you live in a low-smog area.

Good luck in your search,

Yes, the AME anatomic hoods are very nice as well, but I haven't seen any of the Modolo 919-type ones for years. I've had a set on my commuter bike for about 20 years now and they're still fine. I don't know what they were made from, but it certainly doesn't degrade like gum rubber.

In the interest of science, I tried one of my CLB hoods on a Campy lever, and it worked ok, although the profile isn't exactly right:

It does have a nice, thick saddle on top and seems quite comfortable as far as I can tell. There does seem to be a fair amount of tension across the bottom and would likely tear eventually, unless the hood were trimmed a little to relieve it.
